The London Art Fair returns for its 30th Anniversary

So here we are, the tinsel is packed away, 2018 has started with high energy, and we here at The Amazing Blog are raring to go and soak up something new and vibrant. Just as well then that the annual London Art Fair  opens it doors on the 17th January, and keeps them open for all us culture vultures until the 21st - book your tickets before the 15th January and you get 40% off … now let’s keep that queue orderly shall we?

Whatever your taste in Contemporary Art, there will be something here for everyone - check out Beaux Arts Bath on Stand G20 for some seriously intriguing work, or Charlie Smith London on Stand 38A for selection of something a little darker. We will be making a bee line for Galerie Olivier Waltman  on Stand G06, as they are showing some seriously delicious pieces, and with a base in both Miami and Paris - what’s not to love?

Of course alongside all the fabulous art on show, being situated at The Business Design Centre in Islington, also means a plethora of choice in restaurants and bars in the surrounding area for refuelling. But of course inside there is the obligatory Champagne Bar for those of us who feel the need, as well The Photo50 and Jack’s Café offering something altogether more wholesome … However, if people watching is your thing - it certainly is ours - then Jack’s Café with views over the whole shebang is also on the menu. We'll look forward to seeing you there!

Friday Favourites - Winterville

As we may have mentioned before, at The Amazing Blog we absolutely LOVE this festive period! Mulled wine, fairy lights and layers are among some of the best things, so being able to enjoy all three in one event is certainly an evening we won't be missing! This year one of our favourite festive events, Winterville, is taking place in South London at Clapham Common

What we like about Winterville is that the event offers Londoner’s an alternative festive experience that’s accessible and enjoyable for all. Go ice-skating on the outdoor ice rink, take the kids to the fairground or head to the roller rink with some friends for an active and fast-paced day.  If you would rather relax and be entertained then head to their famous Spiegeltent which is hosting one-off events such as comedy, cabaret and family Christmas shows.  What’s more, the event is the part-time home to some of London’s best street food at the Feastopia, full of option and delight.

Entry is free, but attractions and events are priced individually. Winterville is open from November 23rd until January 5th, so there is plenty of time for you to go and no excuse for you not to. NB:  Due to weekend popularity for all these individual events, Friday and Saturday night you will need to book your tickets here.

Flores Mediterrneas by Álvarez Gómez

Blog Image.jpg

Just because we are in the deep, dark, depths of Winter doesn’t mean we can’t inject a bit of Mediterranean warmth into our lives. We at The Amazing Blog are longing for the heat, the culture and the beautiful smells of our favourite Mediterranean countries, however, with Christmas around the corner the budget for jet-setting off has dwindled down to nothing. If this also sounds like you, then never fear because we have the next best thing, Álvarez Gómez  whose Mediterranean Flowers collection of Eau de Toilette's will transport you to a beautiful Spanish vineyard in a single spritz.

With eight delightful floral scents to chose from, each fragrance will remind you of your favourite Spanish Garden or Forest filled with Mediterranean flowers. Álvarez Gómezwas established in 1912 and has a long tradition in Spain. Making use of this long history the brand has selected a variety of delicate fragrances in this exquisite range. Featured in Hotels and Restaurants the brand is a Spanish beauty staple, and the simple art deco bottle sits pride of place on many bathroom shelves, both public and private.

We loved all of the scents, but our favourite was their Orchid and White Lily Eau de toilette. This one has a particularly sultry scent. The fragrance envelops you and left us feeling incredibly sophisticated. Due to this, we think it is the perfect perfume to wear to a special dinner, evening event or just as a winter fragrance. We won’t be wearing anything else!

You can purchase all of their perfumes here, costing £19.50. With Christmas around the corner this is the perfect gift to ask for or buy for that special someone.

Friday Favourites - Cookbooks

With recipes such a spiced carrot and walnut cake, raspberry and rose kadaif nests and apricot and elderflower jam just to name a few. Our favourite has to be cranberry, orange and almond caramel cookies. A simple and easy recipe and which had everyones taste buds going as soon as we opened the oven. Honey & Co: The Baking Book by Sarit Packer and Itamar Srulovich is published by Saltyard Books in £25 hardback. As fruit goes with seasons so does cheese and reading through the pages of A Year in Cheese cookbook by Alex and Leo Guarneri we discovered so many things we didn’t know about this amazing source of calcium, we were left amazed! Alex and Leo take us on a journey through the seasons, explaining little gems like why you can’t have a proper goat’s curd in the Winter.

Their eye catching pictures will help you to spring from this damp February into a lustrous Summer with the freshness of their mozzarella and ricotta recipes.  And when it gets colder and all you want is to stay at home having dinner with your closest friends, the gruyere and reblochon menu suggestions will be the perfect choice. The recipes are so easy to follow that once you finished you just can't wait to start cooking again! If you want to explore the world of cheese then look no further. The book is available on White Stuff here for £20.

The finalist contestant Luis Troyano from The Great British Bake Off in 2014, decided to share his culinary knowledge publishing his very own book; Bake it Great. It is not a random collection of recipes but a proper baking course that guided us from the fundamentals. Starting from fillings like jam and custard, Luis teaches us how to cook the perfect bases for our little gastronomic accomplishments.

Here there is a recipe for every palate, we only had to open the book and whatever creation came up, we were only too happy to wear our aprons and start baking. We particularly liked the Butterscotch meringue tart and the traditional Empanadas. What we really liked was that at the very end of the book Luis listed few of the best shops where to find some of the harder to find ingredients. Buy your copy here a £13.60 for the hardcover and £10.79 for the Kindle edition.

Di Blasi – Multitasking Butter and Prickly Pear and Manna Cream

When we get home from The Amazing Blog Office, the last thing we want to do is endure a long skincare regime. However, we have found a solution to this possible problem with the Di Blasi’s Multitasking Butter Makeup Remover as well as the Prickly Pear and Manna Cream. In fact, all you need is just these two products to have clean, soft and hydrated skin.

What we love about the Di Blasi brand and these two products is that they shorten your skincare regime in just two quick simple steps. The Multitasking Butter not only removes your make up with ease but also soothes and hydrates your skin. The ingredients contain no alcohol, so you can wipe away the impurities without stinging your eyes. The Multitasking Butter can be used as a face cream, lip balm, hand cream and even helps to soothe your sunburn, so perfect for the forthcoming summer season. Blended with Shea and Mango Butter, calendula flowers, wheat oil and infused with organic lemon essential oil; which gives it a lovely light fragrance.

The Prickly Pear and Manna Cream will give your skin that extra hydration without leaving behind any oily residue. It is ideal for either oily or combination skin types as it has a blend of natural polysaccharides and mucilage from the prickly pear pads, with sugars from the Manna (which is grown in Sicily) all of which will help keep your skin looking tip top for the spring.

For that glowing and youthful looking complexion, purchase online at Di Blasi here which is £35 for the Multitasking Butter and £32.70 for the Prickly Pear and Manna Cream here.
