Taste of London

Ready for a weekend of gastronomic delights? We deffo are and with rather handy timing Taste of London has rolled into Regent’s Park. Currently showcasing the best of London’s top eateries this alfresco gourmet feast is the perfect opportunity to sample renowned dishes from the likes of Scotts, Le Caprice, Petrus and Le Gavroche, to name just a few of the 40 there are to choose from.  To further add to the culinary delights there are 200 producers exhibiting a bounty of food and beverages, from top brands to artisan offerings. Get ready to shop and sample to your heart’s content.

The trademark small plates are back, no getting eyes bigger than our tummies here, the trick is to keep sampling and save room as you are always going to come across something else that you just have to try. The dream tasting menu just goes on and on; Rhodes' famous Jaffa Cake Pudding, Roux's Lobster and Truffle Cocktail, ORA's Sticky Rice with Thai Honey Mango and Skylon's Butter Poached Lobster being just a few of the tantalising dishes on offer.

If you are looking for a side of exclusivity with your Taste of London experience we suggest opting for tickets that allow access to The Laurent Perrier Secret Garden. New for 2011 this little hidden gem offers respite from the crowds as well as fine foods, drinks, entertainment and top chefs.

If you fancy doing something other than eating your way around the festival head over the one of the theatres for a masterclass from some of the top names in food. Other masterclass attractions include Jamaican cuisine, beer and tapas matching and the best in baking – something for everyone we think. We will be making a beeline for the La Pâtisserie Peugeot theatre at 2:50pm tomorrow to see our fave chocolatier, Marc Demarquette, showcasing his talents.

Summer Karaoke

If, like me, you’re prone to losing your friends after 5 minutes in packed clubs, regret wearing your 6 inch heels the moment you walk in the door as all you want to do is sit down and hate having to wait half an hour to order your drink then you’ll be as excited as me to find out one of London’s most popular clubs has answered all my partying needs!

This Summer Mahiki is offering visitors to their Dover Street Tiki themed hangout the ultimate private playroom. The Polynesian inspired night club known for their lethal Mahiki Treasure Chest cocktails and celebrity fans have just opened a brand new private suite mysteriously named the No-Tell Motel room. The Vegas-style concealed room is based on a 1970’s motel complete with shag pile carpets, carrots squawking in the trees and your very own Lucky Voice karaoke room.  Like all good motels the room comes with a double bed, kitchen, lounge, fancy dress outfits, comedy props, a specially designed Southern Comfort cocktail menu and your very own personal Mahiki waiter to bring you all your food and drink orders direct to your room (OK, maybe this isn’t any ordinary motel). The room can hold up to 25 guests making it the perfect place to party and what’s more, after a tiring night of drinking, dancing and singing your heart out at karaoke with your nearest and dearest you can catch a few zzz’s before check out.

The No-Tell Motel is available to hire in two allocated time slots 5.30pm-9pm and 9.30pm-3am. Go to www.mahiki.com to find out more.

Bokja furniture

Here at the Amazing PR offices we are loving today’s warm(er) weather, especially after this weekend’s rain. So it just makes sense that we are also loving the bright furniture of Bokja designs. Bokja is a Beirut-based business and the creative lovechild of Hoda Baroudi and Maria Hibri. Together they have managed to cleverly combine one’s love of ancient tapestries and textiles with the other’s penchant for retro furniture. All of the furniture is made from designs of 50’s, 60’s and 70’s furniture unearthed in Beirut flea-markets and antique dealerships which are then recovered by local artisans with Central Asian textiles. The result is a treat for the eyes, colourful sofas, chairs, lounges, and pouffs that boast names as playful as their patterns (Scrambled Egg and Mickey Mouse are some standouts).

Feeling a bit guilty about splurging on one of these pieces? (in our dreams!) Well fear not because Bokja gives a percentage of their proceeds to local organizations that work to empower women. To see more photos of Bokja’s designs be sure to check out their Flickr account here. Items are available at Mint or Liberty or you call +961 1 975 576 to place an order.

No guilt-laden calories

With summer here and my new MiH Marrakesh jeans still a teensy bit tight I have put a strict ban on any sweet treats in the house or office – anyone determined to flout this rule has to keep their contraband well hidden from view. So when I heard about Cook with Lisa’s dessert-themed scented candles I hoped this may be a way for me to get a sneaky sweet fix, with no guilt-laden calories.

The choice of four mouth-watering flavours, Apple Pie, Shortbread, Raspberry Sorbet and Pineapple Flambé presented me with a bit of a dilemma, but the Raspberry Sorbet won out in the end. The creator Lisa Roukin, who is also a talented cooking teacher and chef (Cordon Bleu no less), was inspired by memories of the scents of her mother’s kitchen. I can imagine my Raspberry Sorbet candle bringing a little burst of summer flavour to a less than summery day. The candles also have the unique twist of a tried and tested recipe on the label, so if you get some serious cravings while burning you can recreate the dish for real.

Each candle has a 50 hour burn time and is handmade in the UK with British ingredients. Cook with Lisa candles are £14.99 and available here
