We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: all of us at The Amazing Blog are passionate about bee welfare. And having had the pleasure of sampling SKN-RG before, we know that they share our enthusiasm. With direction from Chinese medicine and Buddhist teachings, the brand focuses on apiary cultivation when harvesting ingredients for their products. Honey, beeswax, pollen, you name it – if it’s bee, it’s 'bee-autiful'. So when they sent us a couple of their Sknrg PRO products to try, we were buzzing with anticipation.

The Sknrg PRO range features five corrective serums, each designed to target a different concern. Of the five, we were given the chance to try the Eye Reviver Brightener and RevitaliseAge Defy Serum, and we were really impressed with the results. Presented in innovative syringe style packaging, both products contain Hyaluronic Acid, fantastic for plumping and hydrating our skin. As well as this, the Eye Brightener is filled with specially selected bee hive products that work to repair damaged tissue. Its gel-like texture had a superb cooling effect, leaving me feeling fresh and rejuvenated. The Revitalise Serum includes natural peptides, helping to reduce wrinkles and fine lines, as well as Sea Kelp Extract and Black Tea Ferment to prolong our new youthful glow. The serum goes on quite thick, but blends to a soft, silky finish, making it a great base for make-up. Both products have a deliciously sweet, natural scent and feel wonderful on the skin, into which they absorbed with impressive speed.

Highly commended in Natural Health Magazine's 2014 Beauty Awards, b2 has always been a hit here at The Amazing Blog. Both the Eye Reviver Brightener and Revitalise Serum are available to buy here for £35 and £40 respectively, along with the rest of the b2 Sknrg PRO range. If you fancy something a little different, but equally bee friendly, have a look at our posts on the b2 Pro Oil and Pro Serum, or Sknrg Enzyme Kit.

Kahina - Night Cream

blog imageWe here at The Amazing Blog appreciate the importance of a great nightly skincare routine. A collection of products that work to repair and nourish your skin whilst your body is recharging are an essential part of any beauty regime. So when Kahina sent us a pot of their moisturising Night Cream, we couldn’t wait until bedtime to try it out. Named after an Ancient Moroccan queen and prophetess, we’re glad to see that Kahina used her divine talents to deliver us superb organic skincare.

Containing two of nature’s most potent anti-aging ingredients, red wine grapes and Argan Oil, the Kahina Night Cream has a luxuriously thick, creamy texture, ideal for reclaiming a youthful visage while you slumber. It glides on after cleansing for rich hydration that doesn’t feel at all heavy, melting into the skin really quickly. Upon application, we found the naturally scented cream to have a decadent feel and fragrance. The luxurious lotion leaves a freshly moisturised feeling that sticks around for quite some time, an aspect that we really enjoyed. Although the cream has a strong aroma, when applied, it becomes a lot more subtle, emitting a soothing scent perfect for bedtime wear.

Suitable for night time use only, it gives skin a huge moisture boost, with the Argan Oil’s Vitamin E bringing back elasticity and reducing those fine lines that pester us so much. The cream works its magic during the night, leaving skin soft and nourished well into the following day. So, like Kahina herself, we foresee hydrated, younger and more beautiful skin in your future. The Kahina Night Cream is available to buy exclusively in store at Fenwicks for £85.

Herra Protect - Hair Perfume

blog imageWe've all tried those shampoos and conditioners that claim to protect our hair, but until now, we would have never dreamt of doing it by spritzing a perfume onto our locks. Thankfully, we here at The Amazing Blog have discovered a way to thoroughly defend our hair, while adding a beautiful aroma to it. Herra Protect is an innovative hair perfume and finishing spray all-in-one. The goal of the spray is not only to shield hair from the elements, but also to hydrate and refresh strands with a brilliant fragrance. Inspired by Greek Goddess Hera, who was well known for her beauty, Herra Protect left us with silky, scented tresses, fit for the gods.

A combination of sunflower extract to protect from UV rays and combat colour fade, and olive fruit extract to guard from free radicals and pollution, make this lightweight perfume the perfect product for the city dwelling girls among us. As well as offering blanket protection for your hair, the unique aroma of Herra Protect is designed to mesh with the scent of both your daily perfume and body, making the fragrance individual to each person. Although I noticed that the scent held in my hair longer than most hair perfumes I have used in the past, for optimum results, Herra Protect suggest reapplying every 2-3 hours. Spraying hair this often may seem excessive, but the 50ml bottle lasts a long time and is the perfect size for carrying in your handbag, making reapplication much easier. Not only does Herra Protect complement my daily scent, but I can spray the weightless formula onto my hair throughout the day with no worry of build up. The tall glass rectangular bottle, engraved with gold accents and complete with black spray pump, looks like a perfume bottle, making for a great accessory on the dressing table. Protect your hair from harmful rays with a delicious scent by purchasing Herra Protect here for £24.99.

La Fee - Absinthe Parisienne

blog imageAlthough we here at The Amazing Blog love our work, we also enjoy a happy hour or two every now and then. And though we definitely wouldn't class ourselves as big on the booze, we were both excited and intrigued when a bottle of Absinthe Parisienne from La Fée landed on our doorstep. In association with the French Absinthe Museum, the artfully designed bottle wouldn’t look out of place in 19th Century France, but it looks equally at home in our liquor cabinet.

From the ‘people who pioneered the Absinthe renaissance’, you’ll struggle to find an absinthe more pure than La Fée. With the original recipe dating back to 1915, there have been a few tweaks since then, although the ingredients still remain 100% natural. This particular blend contains a delicate mix of fennel, coriander and hyssop, along with the distillation of 60% more Grand Wormwood and less star anise than the original recipe. The naturally vibrant ‘verte’ drink is protected by La Fée’s unique UV blocking green bottle, ensuring your absinthe will taste great all the way to the bottom. And, considering its 68% potency, that will take us quite some time yet. Although we are a fan of the signature aniseed taste, we weren’t quite brave enough to drink it traditionally – with 6 parts water to 4 parts absinthe, using the included serving spoon to dissolve in a sugar cube or two.

We were, however, more than happy to sample the cocktail menu. Our favourite recipe was ‘Green Fingered’, a delicious concoction best described as an adventurous Pimms, consisting of 25ml Absinthe Parisienne, 25ml sugar syrup, berries, mint, cucumber and lemon, all topped off with a splash of ginger ale. It’s the perfect refreshing beverage for the pub garden weather that's on it's way. With bans in some countries only lifted in the last 15 years, it goes without saying that this is not a drink for the faint hearted. But in moderation, drunk responsibly, it’s a delicious tipple, easy to customise to your own tastes. La Fée Absinthe Parisienne  is available to buy here for £42.91.

Friday Favourites - Nails

Though we love the look of perfectly polished tips, sometimes it’s hard to find a moment to paint our nails, drying time alone being a drain on our precious minutes. To make the pampering process less of a hassle, we here at The Amazing Blog have gathered a few of our favourite varnishes, wraps and treatments. For us, the best polish choices are based on more than just colour, but quality, texture and drying time too. So we've picked out the best of the bunch, all of which meet our rather high standards. With this range of pretty polishes, we’re sure that you’ll persevere and find the time for a quick paint job.Nail and Cuticle Oil_5302Before painting on a slick of your favourite summer polish, it’s important that your cuticles are primped to perfection to ensure a show stopping end result. To keep nail beds supple, we’ve discovered a Lemon Nail & Cuticle Oil from The Apothecary Room. An effective blend of sweet almond oil, lavender to heal and protect cuticles, and lemon to brighten the nail, the oil is completely natural and smells good enough to eat. It comes with a really handy pipette applicator, so that you can control the amount you’re using, as the smallest drop is more than enough. I used the oil on my hands as well as my nails, massaging it into my fingers to make them feel soft and moisturised. It’s the perfect pre-paint treat, and is available here for £9.75.NARS Summer 2014 Color Collection Libertango Nail Polish - jpegNow that your nails are well and truly prepped, it's time to find the perfect polish. If bright, opaque nails are what you seek, then NARS’ Opaque Nail Polish range is just the thing for you. Consisting of 20 beautiful hues, spanning from purples to oranges, we were lucky enough to try limited edition Libertango, a wonderful fiery tomato red. The lacquer lived up to its name, delivering opaque coverage in just one coat, so much so that I didn’t trouble myself with applying a second. The formula glides on smoothly, and dries to a gorgeous glossy finish. Free from toluene, formaldehyde and DBP, and housed in the NARS signature matte packaging, it looks as vibrant in the bottle as it does on your nails. And with built in UV protection, the vibrancy of these iconic shades won’t fade. The NARS Opaque Nail Polish collection is available to purchase here from £14, with Libertango priced at £14.50.ofatIf you’re looking for a little luxury, try Only Fingers and Toes. They were kind enough to send us a beautifully boxed trilogy of polishes, and we thought that they made the perfect summer trio. Comprised of Spanky, a baby pink, Reef, a light orange, and Sunshine, a vibrant yellow, all three shades made us pine for sunnier days to come. Determined to put the polishes through their paces, we tried Sunshine, as, in our experience, yellow polishes are notorious for their streaky coverage. I must say, we were highly impressed by how bright and fresh the colour looked on the nails. The thick brush helped the varnish to glide onto our nails easily, providing even coverage in just a couple of strokes. The trilogy is available to buy online at Harvey Nichols, here, for £42. Alternatively, the polishes are sold separately for £16 each.Sweet Peach LR1Another great choice of varnish is Organic Glam. Famed for its natural approach to beauty, The Organic Pharmacy's cosmetic range includes a selection of nail polishes in an array of flattering colours. With their gold motif and demure packaging, we were intrigued by the prospect of a varnish with only three ingredients, and so we gave Sherbet Lemon a try. A peachy shimmer, one coat gives you a sheer, subtle wash, for a beautiful, understated look. If sheer isn’t what you’re after, don’t worry, the varnish builds up really easily for a brighter pop of colour, without ever looking too messy. With its very fast drying formula, this non-toxic range offers the ultimate in ‘glam’ nails. The polishes are available to buy here for £10 each.

h-nai80179lacquer_01If you're looking for a polish that's equally as pretty, but a little more affordable, then Crabtree and Evelyn is the perfect option. We were offered the chance to test their Peony Lacquer. After freshening up our nails, we painted on a quick layer of the polish, and it dried in next to no time. On top of its impressive fast drying formula, we were surprised by how opaque the light polish was, although we applied a second coat out of habit, giving a much bolder effect. After a few days of wear without chipping, we fell even more in love with the polish. You too can fall in love with Crabtree and Evelyn nail polishes, with a variety of colours available here for £6.00.TN-004-h-res1For those more lax in the nail painting department, Lazy Nails' Custom Nail Wraps make a great alternative to the more high maintenance varnish route.
