Friday Favourites- Lip Products

While skin care is very important, a lot of people forget to give their lips the TLC that they deserve. Although a good lip balm is a must, sometimes we need a little extra help to keep them moisturised, protected and plumped. For this week’s Friday Favourites at The Amazing Blog, we rounded up four NEW lip must-haves to use in your weekly lip care routine.

MYJ  - Knightsbridge Lip Mask

The first step to any successful lip care routine is to make sure you have even foundation before applying your favourite gloss or lipstick. MYJ’s Knightsbridge lip mask does just this! It rejuvenates and moisturises lips for a plump and naturally-pink pout. Made in Spain, the serum is infused with only natural oils and extracts such as raspberry seed, sesame, grape seed, rose hip, chamomile and calendula that work beautifully together to tighten and minimise damage to your lip contour especially from the dreaded free radicals. Lavera -  SOS HELP Lip Balm

A.T Antao  -The Luna Trio

Finally, while we’re all for a natural pout, sometimes we want a little pop of colour to enhance an outfit. The latest Chinese brand to hit the UK is AT Antao with one of their hero set of products which are their The Luna Trio. This pack of three mini lipsticks that come in three different highly-pigmented shades of red, all presented in a rather glamorous gold box. When A.T. founder Teniya Tao launched the brand in 2014, she aimed to market the brand on a global level by developing products that were highly effective yet non-toxic. The Luna Trio, like other A.T. products, are strategically developed with partnership with European laboratories to ensure these standards. Although the lipsticks when applied are matte on lips, the Vitamin E and jojoba and avocado oils which are infused into the formula, gives the lipsticks a creamy, effortless application.

A.T. also claims that their lipsticks contain lower levels of lead compared to other lipsticks in the market. So you can still have a bold lip without it having to be toxic to your body. These nourishing ingredients hydrate lips while still giving you a bold, matte look. The first lipstick in the trio, 519 Chili, is a coppery red that is great for a more subtle pop of colour. The next lipstick in the trio in the shade 520 Corail leaves lips covered with a gorgeous coral sheen. If you want a ‘true red’ colour, 521 Antao Red is a dialed-down version of the tone to great for putting together a more casual look.  After completing our suggested lip care routine, apply your favourite shade on moisturised lips for a finished lip routine. Heathcote & Ivory's Salsa Silks Collection

When you find a product that you love, there’s nothing better than discovering that there is a whole collection too. One that we are loving at the moment, is Salsa Silks by Heathcote and Ivory. We’re no strangers to this brand at The Amazing Blog, having featured their Vintage & Co. Baubles & Belles Festive Bath and Body Tin in our Gifts for Her feature in December. The Salsa Silks collection is vibrant, and contains three scented gifts (for a loved one, or yourself) encased in elegantly decorated packaging, and inspired by the colourful rhythms of salsa. Intrigued? We were too.

As a brand that embraces the world of interior design and the great British outdoors, Heathcote & Ivory are known for their mix of bright colours and floral patterns, in both vintage and modern styles. The Salsa Silks Collection is no exception, containing only the finest essential oils and actives, it is a luxury collection, without a luxury price tag.

The first product that we tried, was the Hand Wash. This vitamin E infused product helps to cleanse and purify, releasing the energising scents of lime, lotus flower and cedarwood. The uplifting essential oils of lemon and sweet orange really make it feel like a spa retreat at home, and the luxurious formula left our hands feeling soft and nourished. We were also pleased to discover that it didn’t leave our hands feeling dry, something we struggle with at this time of the year.

Secondly, we tried the Heart Soap In A Tin. This lovely triple-milled soap is presented in an embossed heart-shaped tin, and is blended with shea butter and glycerine, helping to gently cleanse and soften your skin. Additionally, and thanks to the beautiful packaging, this isn’t only a pleasure for your skin, but also gives your bathroom a touch of design sparkle. Gone are the days of a boring block of soap on the sink.

Finally, we were also pleased to discover that this collection contains a Lip Gloss. Delivered in a smaller heart-shaped tin, this moisturising peach lip gloss is made of beeswax and olive extracts, helping to keep your lips perfectly soft and, most importantly, kissable. The soft peachy smell of the pink glittery gloss is also a highlight, taking away the often chemical smell of other lip glosses on the market. It is also nourishing and less sticky than competitor glosses, something we’re thankful of!

Mr Smith's Balancing Shampoo

When The Amazing Blog were asked to come up with Australia’s best exports, shampoo was not our most obvious answer. Heaven knows there are a huge range of Aussie brands on offer here in the UK, from beachwear to popstars; beers to soap operas, and everything in between. However, a haircare company which has proved to be incredibly popular is now happily making waves over here, in the elegant form of Mr Smith - a gender neutral, high performance range of haircare products. We have happily welcomed them to our shores.

Mr Smith’s hair care products are beautifully presented in the most stylistically monochromatic packaging. It is clear where the makers want us to focus our attentions, and that is within the pristine white containers of nourishment, designed for tending to our luscious locks. And it is Mr. Smith’s Balancing Shampoo which immediately caught our attention, as the fragrance created a therapeutic massage of the nostrils - and that was before it had even been applied to the scalp! With rose geranium, patchouli, jasmine and mandarin in the mix, such a result is probably not a surprise. The addition of shea butter, avocado and lime oil makes for a sublime sense of clean too. Mr. Smith have clearly been painstaking in the research and development of this range, and with the shampoo in particular, nourishment and enrichment of the hair follicle is key, and has certainly come through in just one blissful wash!

As with many coveted brands, sourcing gems such as the Mr. Smith Collection may prove a little on the challenging side, but they have just recently launched in the UK, so here’s hoping they get to spread their magic more widely soon. We managed to track down the delights of the Balancing Shampoo here. At £25 for a 300ml bottle, the price reflects the effort that has been lavished not only on the shampoo, but also the entire range. This includes conditioners and styling options; all of which are sulphate and paraben free and PETA certified. What’s not to love?

Just Bee - Nourishing Hand Cream

It is no secret that we at The Amazing Blog love everything and anything to do with bees. With the UK’s increasingly volatile weather systems, and a particularly brutal summertime, the British bee has recently suffered. With the dramatically declining numbers, to find out how you can help, see: Help Save The Bees and The Beekeepers Association. Such is the nationwide concern that even our Exec Ed, Edwina keeps toying with idea of putting a hive on her central London roof terrace! Therefore, we’re extremely happy to introduce you to our latest find Just Bee.

Just Bee is a family owned enterprise producing luxury skincare and scented candles. They have a 55 year tradition of beekeeping in the family and keep 125 hives, dotted around rural West Somerset. With beeswax and honey harvested from their family bees, helps to keep their products as natural as possible and the selected scents used come from essential oils and are handmade on our farm.  Something you might not know is that both the Egyptians and Romans used beeswax on their skin - this is well-documented. Not only does beeswax act as a natural anti-inflammatory, it is also antibacterial, anti-allergenic and contains vitamin A. It is naturally hydrating and particularly good for sufferers of eczema or psoriasis. We mustn't forget to mention that Just Bee not only produces skincare but candles too.

We picked the Ultra Nourishing Hand Cream to try. Made with a combination of beeswax and honey, the cream seals moisture into the skin and is anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and anti-allergenic. It unscented and also has added rosehip and sweet almond oil, which helps to rejuvenate the skin with its anti-aging properties. Best of all it's Fragrance-free and the natural ingredients leave hands silky soft with a gentle scent of honey. It has become a firm favourite as it is not only rich and moisturising for our hands but also for lips too! We like multipurpose products and this certainly has proved to be just that. Our Exec Ed is so impressed with this handy cream, that she closely guards it on her desk. It’s great value at £12.50 for a sturdy 250ml bottle with pump and... We think that this should be shared as everyone’s desk essential – hear that Exec Ed?!

SilDerm's Lumixyl RevitalEyes

This time every year, my skin reacts terribly to the change of season - the constant changes of temperature make my skin dehydrated and very dull... make-up ends up looking odd and not as natural. That's why apart from looking for nourishing products, brightening ones are also on the top of my beauty wishlist every Autumn. To be fair, and when it comes to eye cream, I've always been on the hydrating side of formulas as they make under eye concealer go smoother - however, and following the "no dull skin in Autumn/Winter", I have to say that I and the girls at The Amazing Blog have fallen for SilDerm's Lumixyl RevitalEyes Brightening Eye Cream.

This effective eye cream uses the Decapeptide-12 technology, which stops the production on melanin; the dark pigment in the skin that causes sun spots, liver spots and dark eye circles. To be fair, I don't suffer from neither fine lines nor inflammation; however, I do have a super sensitive under eye area which needs deep hydration and brightening. The product is quite liquidy yet nourishing, it leaves the skin feeling fresh and soothes this sensitive area instantly. Silderm's Lumixyl has left my skin smoother, more flexible and definitely brighter.
