Nail Polish

NARS Guy Bourdin Holiday Collection

BLOG IMAGE Makeup might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but let’s be honest, for a lot of us it is. We girls at The Amazing Blog are always chatting about makeup, sharing with one another our must buy and must not buy products. With different skin types, there are things we don’t all agree on, like foundations. There is however, one collection we are all excited about getting our hands on, the NARS Guy Bourdin Holiday Collection. Inspired by the legendary French photographer, NARS launches this Limited Edition Collection full of stunning colours, textures and amazing imagery (as you would expect from them).

The first item in the collection is the Eye Shadow, and we had the Bad Behaviour shade. The texture of this powder is quite buttery, which makes it a dream to apply and means there is no fall out to deal with. It’s really easy to blend and is the ideal colour to create an elegant smokey eye look for a night out. I like to use a lighter silvery shimmer on the inner corner of my eye then gradually add depth with the Bad Behaviour shade. There are four more shades in the collection, Wishful Thinking, Rage, Cambodia, Mississippi Mermaid, and they are all fabulous! All of which work without the need for a primer as the texture makes it long lasting enough.

The Lipsticks in this collection are all gorgeous. There are five shades, and they all have a berry quality about them. Some of the colours will take a braver individual as they are quite striking shades. We had the Short Circuit, a beautiful matt lipstick which doesn’t become drying, always a bonus. Coral colours are very complementary on the face and work well with a light blush for that complete holiday look. If we really had to say something negative, it would be that the shade Short Circuit made teeth look a little less white than we would like, but apart from that we loved this glamorous lippy. It’s the perfect balance between red and orange, lovely!

I tried the blush, and have now become a little addicted to it. Not only does the packaging feel soft and amazing, but so does the powder. It’s very compact so you don’t get a messy makeup bag if you accidentally leave it open (common occurrence for me!). I had the Day Dream shade, which is my favourite colour in the collection as it’s the most subtle and great for every day wear. I wear it with a bit of highlighter and a light lip shade to get a summery look, even if it’s winter, we can pretend it’s summer.

The nail varnish collection has a great selection of pink and purple berry shades, all of which work well with the lipsticks and blush. The collection leaves a gorgeous glossy finish which is tough to chip! Especially if you add another layer once the first has dried. We love everything in the NARS Guy Bourdin Holiday Collection, the shades all compliment one another and fit any holiday season. In our eyes, one of the most beautiful collections the brand has ever come up with. Got to love Bourdin's surrealistic work too!

You can purchase the lipstick (£18.50) eye shadow (£18), blush (£21.50) and nail varnish (£14.50) from their website as of November 1st 2013.

Uslu Airlines Nail Polish

USLU BLOG image We all know that it is not just the formula of a product that makes you want to purchase it. Everything from the name of the product to the packaging should interest the consumer. If there is one company who has very ‘cool’ marketing, packaging, and products, it is Uslu Airlines. Uslu Airlines was founded by a Turkish make-up artist and German entrepreneur, and they are taking the cosmetics world by storm. We recently tried one of their lipsticks in the colour HOH, which we featured on The Amazing Blog here, and absolutely loved the power of the colour. When we heard about their new release of nail polishes, called ‘USL’, we knew we had to try them out!

The USL range by Uslu Airlines features nail polishes in a delicious array of colours including two glitter shades. We were able to sample CUN, which is a lovely bright orange, that we think will be suitable to any skin tone. It applies very smooth and two coats of the polish did the trick for my nails. We think this is the perfect shade of pumpkin ready for Halloween!

If you didn’t already know, Uslu Airlines refers to the names of their products as ‘destinations’ with each product having the name of an airport around the world. CUN stands for the Cancun International Airport in Mexico and I think that this is an incredibly fitting name for the colour. It is bright and tropical, but will work just as well for autumn. The USL range has a variety of colours from light pinks to red, so there will definitely be something for everyone.

Uslu Airlines has a wide range of products available, from the USL nail polishes to their vibrant lipsticks and airbrush makeup. To purchase the USL nail polishes or learn more about the brand, visit the Uslu Airlines website.

Looking for a new signature scent this season? Amber Perfume from Laboratory Perfumes is one of two new fragrances with a pure and modern scent that is for both men and women. This fragrance is extremely complex and lingers on the skin long after application. The combination of this tree resin, Amber, mixed with other unique ingredients makes for a very special fragrance.  This strong scent was one of our favourites and is definitely distinguishable from all of the rest. The Amber scent consists of natural ingredients that remind us of the outdoors. The perfume can be purchased on Laboratory Perfumes’ website for £48. Laboratory Perfumes believes the home should smell as good as you, so they also have created an Amber 2 candle that sells for £35 on their website. The other fragrance included in this collection is their Gorse  Perfume (we wrote about this here). This perfume evokes a strange sense of place; from the English coast to the surrounding countryside it leaves a rich and warm finish to any surface. This perfume along with its candle can also be purchased on Laboratory Perfumes' website retailing at the same prices. These fragrances are truly exquisite. Their packaging even mocks the laboratory theme as they are packaged in simple brown cylindric tubes, while the candles are encased in beakers. This line of fragrances and candles would make perfect Christmas gifts this festive season.

Weleda has launched multiple Christmas Duo ‘Handbag’ Gift Sets. Containing a luxurious Creamy Body Wash, and a new natural Body Lotion, these gifts sets would make the perfect gifts! Each set offers two full (200ml) products that will renew and nourish your skin. They come in four different scents: Citrus, Sea Buckthorn, Wild Rose (our personal favourite!), and Pomegranate. Korres - Myrrh & Oligoelements Nail Colour

If there's a brand that we love at The Amazing Blog, that is Korres. Their products never seize to amaze us - they smell natural and nice, they're free of nasty ingredients, they have the best packaging and they work. For us, Korres is one of those brands that never disappoints - from their Tinted Lip Balms to their amazing Shower Gels, Korres is a brand that we always go back to. We were rather excited when we heard that they were launching a Nail Colour range; bearing in mind the natural approach to beauty by the brand, we imagined that the formula was going to be designed to strengthen the nails and to keep them healthy. And nothing further from the truth, Korres has designed a stunning nail polish collection without comprimising the brand's natural philosophy.

Korres has come up with a collection of 20 beautiful shades, a Top Coat and a Base Coat. The formula is rich in Myrrh extract, Oligoelements and Provitamin B5 and works towards the nail's overall wellbeing. Myrrh extracts enhances Keratin for stronger and more flexible nails and it also helps boosting hydration levels in the under-nail area. Provitamin B5 provides elasticity and moisture; and Oligoelements, such as Silicium, are essential for the overall nail health, especially for soft and brittle nails.

The Amazing Blog's favourite shades are 88 Midnight Blue and 94 Light Grey. Midnight Blue (see picture) is a deep navy blue-almost-black colour, with a intense blue sheen through it. Perfect for those of you who find black to be too harsh. Light Grey looks beautiful on pale hands, it's a stunning grey shade with a slight taupey touch. These nail polishes are long-lasting - we haven't experienced issues with chipping and the colours are opaque applying just one coat.

The Nail Colour Collection, the Base and Top Coats retail at £9.00 from ASOS and Harvey Nichol's. However, you can now find the Nail Colour polishes for only £4.50 in ASOS... bargain!

Suncoat

If you're like me you're never without a lick of nail polish on your manicured hands. Whether it's OPI, Barry M, or Essie, I feel a bit naked if I don't have a bit of colour on my finger nails. But having perfectly painted nails all the time can be a hassle, especially when it comes to taking off the polish. And I've yet to meet a girl who likes the smell of acetone. Here at The Amazing Blog there's no shortage of nail polish, adhesive nails or nail polish remover, so we'll take any help we can get! So in steps Suncoat Nail Polish Remover Gel, which might seem like a strange concept at first, but you'll get used to it, trust me. This all natural nail polish remover is perfect for on the go girls, whether it's one nail or your whole hand. Of course, being all natural it's not as quick as swiping over your fingers, but what else do you have to do when you're sitting on the tube in the morning! It's made from corn and soy and it way more gentle on your nails than regular polish which along with taking off your nail polish, can sometimes strip away some of the natural oils on your nail. Suncoat works with all different nail polishes, is not tested on animals and is vegan friendly, so you have no excuse not to try it out! Just squeeze out a small amount (you don't need a massive amount) over your nail, let it sit for about a minute, and wipe it away with a cotton ball or a bit of tissue - simple. I use at least two coats of polish when I paint my nails and I've not had any trouble removing my polish.

Check out Suncoat's full range of natural nail polish, nail polish removers and more on their website and GentleBeauty.co.uk.
