Mal & Mod: Active Hydration Tonic

Mal & Mod.jpg

As our summer kicks in and our complexions suffer from the humidity and heat, as always at The Amazing Blog we need to find a solution. This is where we turn to a hydrating facial mist which is cooling and uplifting. However, in a recent search, we’ve found that too many high street face mists are ineffective, watery or filled with chemicals. So, today we’re happy to introduce another one of our #amazingfinds with the natural multipurpose Active Hydration Tonic from Mal & Mod to revitalise, hydrate and even brighten the skin.

Mal & Mod is a British brand founded by husband and wife team Louise and Dan Malcolmson. Together they studied at Formula Botanic just for fun, to learn how to make products for themselves. However, in 2016 while creating products, they realised a niche in the market, “We became increasingly conscious of what we were exposing our skin to every day and so was inspired to create something we could both use to simplify our skincare routine. So, Mal & Mod Mal & Mod was born, based on a shared desire for a stripped-back skincare approach for both genders.” Mal & Mod is a gender-free natural skincare brand that keeps skincare simple, with only four core products in the range, they contain only bioactive and plant-based ingredients. In their view, although women and men have different skin types, they don’t necessarily need separate products. Their ethos is strongly focused on sustainability by offering fewer products for a skincare routine that everyone can use, which in turn means fewer bottles in the bathroom. The brand uses Miron glass, which is 100% recyclable, together with its tissue paper and packaging. They also source their ingredients as locally as possible, working with manufacturers who are also committed to limiting their carbon footprint using sustainable and cruelty-free ingredients.

The product we tried is their Active Hydration Tonic which was shortlisted in the 2020 Pure Beauty Awards. Thanks to its plethora of 32 ingredients, this Tonic is energising, refreshing and super-cooling on the complexion. There are five key elements; the most unusual is glasswort. This helps protect the skin from environmental stress; with betaine, amino acids, and minerals, this extract can strengthen the skin barrier, increase skin recovery and evens skin tone. Hyaluronic Acid here is a moisturising boost that hydrates the dermis and reduces signs of fatigue. The plant extract selaginella pulvinate also hydrates skin, whilst also strengthening the skin’s protective barrier functionKumquat extract contains vitamin C, antioxidants and calcium to repair and increase skin vitality. Finally, Aloe vera is there to soothe, hydrate and repair. Together with the other ingredients, this Tonic gives the skin a dewy, brighter and more lifted appearance. The Tonic has fine particles, which evenly distribute the mist onto the face The fragrance is garden-fresh with a light combination of citrus, spearmint and lavender (all in the formula). We used it after cleansing, to tone the skin; on top of makeup, to set it; and intermittently during the day, to fresh up in the heat. We think this is a great little multitasker to keep close at hand to cleanse, hydrate, cool and tone the skin. What we loved about this Sunscreen was its light citrus fragrance, a thin and non-tacky texture and self-adjusting subtle tint which didn’t leave any white cast or residue. It’s also nourishing enough to wear on its own as CC cream, or as a primer under makeup.  It is cruelty-free, recycle-friendly, vegan and water-resistant for up to 40 minutes. Organic Island : Shell Lips Balms

How at The Amazing Blog, we wish it was summer - oh to be walking barefoot along the beach, without a care in the world…  Well, what if we told you that there’s a product that could bring back some of those distant memories?  See the above pretty Shell Lip Balms, housed inside recycled shells which have been washed up on the Australian shores. These contain yet another of Organic Island’s organic raw plant-based balms. Recently, you may remember we featured their PAWPAW Multi Balm here.

Organic Island is an organic Australian skincare launched in 2006 by Mark Powers. The company ethos is to produce honest organic cosmetics and skincare all with advanced technology. With their patented formulas of Si02 Matrix, OliveM 1000 and Lexfeel Natural, Organic Island is an established and multi-award winning brand. They also have the much acclaimed ACO (Australian Certified Organic) and BDIH Germany certification, which are two of the most highly-regarded global commissions. Receiving these accreditation, means that their products only contain organic, raw plant and mineral-based formulas, and ensures a purity of ingredients. Organic Island also states that the only preservative they use in their Shell Lip Balms is vitamin E.

These Shell Lip Balms are made using only 100% recycled beach shells; they collect the washed-up shells, cleaning with sandblasting and water pressure - Organic Island does it all. Every shell is unique, and there are six different types of shells to choose from. Our favourites are the select four, that have a handy mirror tucked inside. We received the full set of six shells to try, which consist of the White Pearl and Turquoise which are a small and compact size. The medium ones are Mocha and Oriental Fan; and largest are Tiger Crown and White Frangipani. Inside all six shells is the organic, silky and moisturising balm which contains only eight organic ingredients. The rosehip oil is packed with essential fatty acid vitamins and antioxidants, which help improve skin hydration and repair dry, damaged skin. Coconut oil contains anti-fungal and antibacterial properties help prevent irritation, making it an excellent skin emollient; and the macadamia oil protects the lips from environmental damage. There is also jojoba oil, lanolin wax, beeswax, vitamin E, and mango seed butter; these all work together to deliver a nourishing and soothing salve. The formula is made up of only natural emollients and has no artificial ingredients i.e. parabens, sulphates, artificial colours, fragrances or petrochemicals. Although, for now, we can’t have our sunshine getaway, we can at least reminisce using one of these seaside inspired beauties. Why not choose your favourite shell for £12.99 here. Each one comes with it’s own a protective cotton pouch, and if you buy two, you get another one free!

Rosenserien - Sweden Eco for Men

Whilst the Swedish Eco Range recently launched, it has only just made the very welcome leap into the UK market place, ensuring these goodies are available to an even wider audience. This superb range of natural and organic skincare is there for us all to enjoy, with an exceptional line up for the boys. As many of you know we’re BIG fans of Rosenserien and have reviewed many of their products here. We first discovered his brand when they won an award with our client The Beauty Shortlist a while ago.

Sweden Eco is produced by RS Biokosmetik, who’ve spent over 35 years making natural and organic skincare products. With this particular range, they forged a collaboration with the well-known dancer and choreographer Tony Irving. Irving who was already a fan of their organic skincare and contacted RS Biokosmetik’s CEO Carina Swartz to ask if they’d like his input. All of this has culminated in Irving participating in the creation of the Swedish Eco Range with everything from function, fragrance, appearance and packaging; which as now resulted in these five fabulous grooming products. Like the Rosenserien range this brand is 100% natural and also includes certified organic ingredients.

Swedish Eco’s key ingredients are aloe vera and green tea which are known for being gentle, long-lasting and effective; whereas the fragrance is a predominantly light and fresh scent of sandalwood and cloves. They kindly sent us the full range of Shampoo for Hair & Body, Shaving Soap, Moisturiser, Deodorant and the most refreshing Skin Toner. They have cleverly covered our male grooming requirements comprehensively. Plus if you care about the environment as much as you do about your grooming regime, then this one is a must for you to try - you certainly won’t be disappointed. Depixym - Cosmetic Emulsions Colours

Fancy playing around with some colours? But don’t have enough time to pick up a paintbrush and create a magical masterpiece? The Amazing Blog is here to introduce a new make-up concept that will allow you to explore your artistic side while creating looks that will leave you looking your brightest, best and gleeful self. Meet Depixym with their ‘Cosmetic Emulsion’ which is probably going to become the most versatile make-up product that you’ve ever used! The brand is here to give you the creative freedom to put some fun back into your make up look.

Depixym is the new generation of makeup that’s ready to rattle the cages of the cosmetic establishment. Mix and match away with their 19 different colours  (plus the addition of a gloss); think vibrant colours, bright yellow, an energising orange or a subtle pink with a woody brown. We know what you’re going to ask; how exactly do you use these colours? Well, that’s the point, it’s however you’d like! The brand breaks away from the restrictions of traditional make-up where an eyebrow pencil cannot be used as lipstick and eyeliner can’t possibly be used as a blush. Depixym’s products can be mixed together and used anywhere on the face or body; it’s so easy and just as you would mix your acrylics or oil paints to achieve the right hue when painting. All these 19 emulsions can be used as eyeshadow, lipstick, blush, eyebrow fillers etc. There are absolutely no limitations on where and how the product can be used, as long as you don’t eat it or stick it in your beautiful eyes.

The founders of this new and exciting brand believe that each individual is different; as to how can one product and one shade suit each and every one of us? They want us to break away from this world of labels. We love how they allow us to experiment and create their own looks and colours based on their personal desires and tastes. They want people to mix it all up and bring out their funky inner sides in a world that’s constantly telling you what’s acceptable. Depixym is based on breaking free from the shackles of society and embracing your true self in whatever shape, form or colour!

The product comes with a small metal palette (be careful it’s a little sharp on the edges) and a mixing wand, all for you to mix your colours in. We tried out the #1059 and #1183 to create our own shades. Each of us ended up with a completely different look; we mainly experimented with it as a lipstick taking us from vivid peach to a nude peachy brown. Best of all is its staying power, but don’t get it on your clothes – one of us did and couldn’t wash it out of their jeans! Hop over to their website to discover your hidden artist.  All their Cosmetic Emulsions colours are priced at £18.
